Auntie Lucy, a senior living alone in a rental flat, initially had limited social interaction within her community. When she first joined the community lunch program in November 2022, she was quiet and reserved, often keeping to herself.

Having experienced personal hardships, she was understandably withdrawn.

However, over time, Auntie Lucy has transformed into a vibrant and engaged member of the community. Today, she not only actively participates in activities but also steps up to support others. As one of our dedicated daily volunteers, Auntie Lucy plays an essential role, helping with the centre’s cleanliness, assisting in the kitchen, and taking on various other tasks. What’s most heartwarming is the deep friendships she has formed.

Auntie Lucy is now a regular presence at the centre, joining programs, offering her assistance, and building meaningful connections with fellow seniors. Her journey is a beautiful testament to the power of community and human connection.

Growing up, Michael was a Friend in Need (FIN) with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP). He is now a longtime Vincentian and serves as the President of the SSVP Conferences at the Church of The Transfiguration. Michael also chairs the CWS-SSVP St. Vincent's Home Management Committee and is a former Society Board member.

After retiring from his corporate and institutional career, Michael now actively leads the social mission of the Society. As both a volunteer and community leader, he offers a unique perspective on the historical work of Catholic charities and the current landscape of social services. He is committed to raising awareness of the ongoing challenges and needs.

Michael is passionate about rallying others to make meaningful contributions to help the poor and marginalised.

Mdm Koo, a senior living alone with complex family challenges, had a period of disconnection from our Goodlife Makan lunch program. However, last year, she rejoined the initiative and has since become a fully engaged and valued member of the community.

Mdm Koo now actively contributes in various ways, from helping other seniors sort clothes for our flea market to participating in the cleaning and washing up after meals in the community kitchen. She has even taken on the responsibility of assisting with purchasing ingredients to prepare meals.

Her renewed involvement has brought a great deal of joy to the community and has had a positive impact on those around her.
