Consumerism, speculation, tax evasion and waste are social sins

We often make economic or financial decisions without considering morality. Here are some examples of social sins. Consumerism is sinful because it makes purchasing decisions to be all about selfish pleasure rather than the common good. Financial speculation, such as speculative purchases of large amounts of agricultural products, can drive up the price of goods to the detriment of many for profit. Tax evasion is avoidance of responsibility and can result in the state having less resources to care for the poorer. Waste disrespects God's creation and reduces the available resources that could have been used for others.
