Workshop on Catholic Social Teaching
By Fr David Garcia, OP
What does it mean to live out our faith today? In other words, what are the concrete ways in which we can put into practice the Gospel command to “love our neighbour?”
Fortunately, we are not left in the lurch when it comes to living our Christian mission in the face of today’s circumstances. The Church saw the need to engage in a more intense reflection about these issues. It pondered on the question of the dignity of the human person and how society can better uphold this dignity.
Even in our present times, the Church continues to reflect on the social realities of the day in the light of our faith and highlighting some principles with which to approach the contemporary issues. These principles are based on teachings from Scripture and the Tradition of the Church. The principles are often referred to as Catholic Social Principles or Doctrines.
This workshop will give participants an overview of the main concepts of the Catholic Social Teaching as well as the basic foundations of Moral Theology. These concepts include: Human Dignity, the principle of subsidiarity, work and economy etc. Besides content teaching, these workshops also include group discussions and the application of the concepts to life situations and real-world examples.
