Dr Lesley-Anne Knight

 

Dr Lesley-Anne Knight is Secretary General of the Catholic humanitarian aid confederation Caritas Internationalis, based in the Vatican City in Rome. She is the first woman to have held the position and was appointed in June 2007.

A British citizen, born in Zimbabwe, Dr Knight was previously International Director of the Catholic aid agency, CAFOD, the Caritas member organisation for England and Wales. Her career in international development spans more than 25 years and she has lived and worked in numerous countries in Africa, Latin America and Europe. She speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German.

Dr Knight was educated at the Dominican Convent High School, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, French, Logic and Metaphysics from the University of Cape Town in the Republic of South Africa, and post-graduate qualifications in French from the University of the Sorbonne in Paris, and Business Management from the University of London. She holds an Honorary Doctorate from St John’s University, New York.

During the 1980s, Dr Knight worked in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Mexico in relief programmes for Central American refugees run by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and Oxfam. She joined Caritas England and Wales in 1992 as programme manager for Latin America and the Caribbean, responsible for CAFOD’s development programme in Brazil, Guyana, Central America and the Antilles.

In 1999, she became Emergencies Director of the UK-based charity HelpAge International, where she was responsible for humanitarian and emergency relief programmes in Northern Iraq, Kosovo/Macedonia, Mozambique and India. She returned to Caritas England and Wales in 2000 as International Director, a post she held before her appointment to Caritas Internationalis in the Vatican City.

Msgr David Cappo, AO

 

Monsignor David Cappo, AO is a Catholic Priest and social policy leader. A qualified social worker, he is Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Adelaide – a role that also makes him deputy to the Archbishop. When Mike Rann was elected Premier in 2002, he established the State’s first Social Inclusion Board and appointed Monsignor Cappo as Chair – a role he continues to hold. In May 2006, he was appointed Commissioner for Social Inclusion to further strengthen his ability to influence and implement social policy across the South Australian Government.

Through these roles, he has spearheaded social policy reform for the State to address a range of pressing social issues including school retention, homelessness, youth offending and mental health.

Monsignor Cappo was made an Officer in the Order of Australia – the nation’s second-highest honour – in the 2007 Australia Day Honours. He was also recently appointed as Vice-Chair of the Australian Social Inclusion Board set up by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.  He is an Independent Adviser for the Executive Committee of State Cabinet and also is a member of the Economic Development Board of South Australia. A former National Director of the Australian Catholic Social Welfare Commission, he has – and continues to- make major contributions to national social policy development.

 
 
   
 
 

Zulkifli Baharudin

 

Zulkifli Baharudin is currently the Managing Director of Global Business Integrators Pte Ltd, He is also the Vice Chairman of Mentor Media Ltd and Director. He sits on the board of Singapore Post Limited, Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre and Football Association of Singapore.  He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Singapore Management University. A Nominated Member of Parliament from 1997 to 2001, he is also Singapore’s Non-Resident Ambassador to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Willie Cheng

 

Willie was formerly Country Managing Partner of Accenture. He is Chairman of the Board of Caritas Singapore. He is currently also on the boards of several commercial and non-profit organisations. He is a member of the Archdiocesan Crisis Coordination Team. He and his wife are a presenting couple with the Marriage Preparation Course. He is a Warden at the Church of the Holy Family.

Christian Choo

 

Christian Choo is the Executive Director of Morning Star Community Services which he founded with his wife in 1999. In the course of his work, he has developed and facilitated family life programmes on parenting, couple relationship, personal growth and learning.

Fr Jojo Fung, SJ

 

Fr Jojo Fung, SJ is a Jesuit priest from Sabah who is involved in three diocesan ministries in the Melaka-Johore Diocese, namely, the Campus Ministry; the Orang Asli Ministry and the Ministry of Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue. He is trained in anthropology and contextual theology and is currently engaged in a post-doctoral research on indigenous shamanism.

Fr David Garcia, OP

 

Fr David Garcia, OP is a Dominican Priest of the Order of Preachers. He holds a Licentiate in Moral Theology and is a sought after speaker. He has lectured at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, St Francis Xavier Major Seminary in Singapore and the Singapore Pastoral Institute. He is a Member of the Formation Committee of Caritas Singapore.

Bro Emmanuel, SG

 

Born in Montreal Canada, Bro Emmanuel, SG was called as a professed Brother of St Gabriel in 195l. Since coming to Singapore in 1954, he has been a teacher, a principal of schools, the Director of Boys' Town Singapore, the Provincial Superior of the Brothers of St Gabriel and the Supervisor of the Schools of the Brothers of St Gabriel for more than 20 years. A Singapore citizen, he is presently the Chairman of Catholic Welfare Services and serves also as Chairman to a number of Governmental, School and Archdiocesan Commissions.

John Gee

 

John Gee studied Middle Eastern history at London University’s School of Oriental and African Studies and much of his past work reflected this interest. He is a freelance writer, but finds much of his time taken up with activities supportive of the rights and well-being of migrant workers. He is currently the President of Transient Workers Count Too. He also co-wrote 'Dignity Overdue', an account of TWC2 and its concerns.

Arthur Goh

 

Arthur Goh is Roman Catholic by confession, faithful spouse by vocation, and Christian educator by profession. He is the Director for the Singapore Pastoral Institute of the Catholic archdiocese, and is a Member of the Formation Committee of Caritas Singapore. Arthur graduated with a Degree of Theology from Pontifical Urbaniana University and has a Master of Education from Boston College.

Mark Goh

 

Mark Goh is Sole-Proprietor of his law firm, Mark Goh & Company. He graduated from the University of Buckingham, UK with honours and was called to the Singapore bar in 1994. He is Chairman of the Law Society's Small Law Firm Committee, a Member of the Singapore Medical Council's Disciplinary Committee and Committee Member of the Catholic Lawyers' Guild. Mark is Vice-Chairman of the Archdiocesan Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People (ACMI). He is legal advisor to the Parish Pastoral Council of the Church of the Sacred Heart.

Fr Patrick Goh

 

Fr Patrick Goh is the Chancellor of the Singapore Catholic Archdiocese and the Parish Priest of the Church of the Holy Family. He is also a Member of the Senate of Priests, Board of Consultors and Board of Caritas Singapore.

Dr John Hui

 

Dr John Hui is a General Practitioner in private practice. He is also a Natural Family Planning Medical Consultant, helping couples to overcome infertility problems using Naprotechnology, having been trained in Omaha, USA in 2005. He has a special interest in bioethics, and recently completed a post graduate course in bioethics from the John Paul II Institute in Melbourne. He was also Master of the Catholic Medical Guild from 1999 to 2007, and now serves on its Council as Immediate Past Master. He and his wife have been presenters with the Marriage Preparation Course since 2000.

Sherlyn Khong

   

Sherlyn Khong is an advocate for education and children's rights. She is the Coordinator of acts29, a mission-oriented group, which serves in Payatas (Metro Manila).  The group works with School For Humanity (Paaralang Pantao), a non-formal school providing free education for Payatas children. She is on the School Chaplaincy Team of Holy Innocents' High School. She also served on the CHIJ Youth Mission Coordinating Team for four years and was a Catechist for 10 years in her parish. Though a former teacher, she continues her work as an educator, teaching kids to read and runs an afterschool learning program.

Joyce Koh

   

Joyce Koh joined Caritas Singapore as the Executive Director in June 2007. She was a former investment banker with many years of experience in the debt and capital markets. She has served in various church ministries including as a facilitator in RCIA.

Kwek Mean Luck

   

Kwek Mean Luck was formerly a Senior Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court and District Judge of the Subordinate Court. He is now Deputy Secretary (Industry) at the Ministry of Trade and Industry. He is a Board Member of the Economic Development Board and the Sentosa Development Corporation. He has been active in mission work in China, Burma, Indonesia, Mongolia and India. He was previously Chairman of the Parish Council of the Church of the Risen Christ and is now serving as a Member of the Board of Caritas Singapore as Chairman of the Grants and Capacity Building Committee.

Dr John Lee

   

Dr John Lee is Vice President of the World Federation of Catholic Medical Associations. Active in the medical circle, he is Chairman of the Archdiocesan Bioethics Committee, Honorary Physician of St Vincent de Paul and Executive Committee Member of the Catholic Medical Guild, being its past Master and Honorary Secretary. He is a member of the Archdiocesan Crisis Coordination Team and has been Mission Coordinator on several mission trips to Myanmar, Cambodia, People’s Republic of China, Indonesia and Timor Leste. He serves as a  Warden, Eucharistic Minister and Catechist at the Church of Our Lady Queen of Peace.

Laurence Lien

   

Laurence Lien is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre. He previously served in the Singapore Administrative Service, rotating through different positions in the Ministries of Finance, Community Development and Sports, Home Affairs and Education. He is Chairman of Lien Foundation, President of the Centre of Non-Profit Leadership, Deputy Chairman of Lien Aid, and Board Member of Caritas Singapore Community Council, the Catholic High School Management Committee, and the Community Foundation of Singapore. Laurence worships at the Church of St Ignatius, where he had previously served as the Chairman and Member of its Parish Pastoral Council and its Faith Formation Committee.

George Lim

   

George Lim is a partner in Wee, Tay & Lim. He is currently Deputy Chairman of the Board of Caritas Singapore.  He was formerly President of the Law Society of Singapore and was appointed Senior Counsel in January 2010. He serves in an advisory capacity on several legal and education boards and committees including the Singapore Mediation Centre, Advisory Board of the NUS Law Faculty and the Pro Bono Management Committee of the Law Society. He is also a volunteer with Jesuit Refugee Service Singapore.

Dr Mathew Mathews

   

Dr Mathew Mathews is the Lead Researcher for the Caritas Singapore Study of the Poor and is currently also involved in several other private and government research projects including studies on low income households, the psycho-social impact of gambling on families and the use of counselling services for elderly populations. He is a Visiting Affiliate at the Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore and was formerly teaching at the Department of Sociology of NUS. Dr Mathews has broad research interests but focuses on research and publication in areas related to family, mental health, social service provision and religion. He is well involved in community service and heads Alive Community Network, a voluntary welfare organisation.

Ng Bee Leng

   

Ng Bee Leng is a social worker by training. Helping people out of inter-generational poverty is a social issue close to her heart. With her more than 20 years of experience, in senior management positions as well, she is involved in direct practice, programme development and evaluation, grant making and partnership development. She is currently an Associate with a management consulting firm, Decision Processes International. She was a Council Member of the Central Singapore Community Development Council and had served on the MCYS Study Group on Dysfunctional Families, the ComCare Management Committee and was the Treasurer of the Society Against Family Violence. She currently volunteers with MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) and the Compassion Fund.

Samuel Ng

   

Samuel Ng is the Chief Executive Officer of Marine Parade Family Service Centre, and Principal of YAH! Community College. He was awarded the Outstanding Social Worker Award in 2001. Samuel is a member of South East Community Development Council, serving as Chairman of the Active Ageing Committee. He is also the Management Committee Member of Nursing Homes under Catholic Welfare Services and a member of Marine Parade Community Preparedness Committee and the Inter-Racial Confidence Circle.  He has been appointed to the Panel of Assessors (Casino Exclusion Order) with the National Council on Problem Gambling. He is also member of the Advisory Panel for Social Work with the SIM University.

Denise Pang

   

Denise Pang is currently the Deputy Chairperson of CLARITY, a Catholic charity helping persons recovering from psychiatric illnesses. She is a Personal and Corporate Mentor with Terrific Mentors Pte Ltd and has previously spent 15 years in Business Development and Strategic Alliances for corporations including Accenture and Hewlett-Packard. She maintains an active participation in community and fundraising projects like the Catholic Business Network Golf for Charity and the President’s Challenge. She has also taught English to workers in Beijing and was involved in promoting community projects in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

Diana Quek

   

Diana Quek is Executive Director of Citi Private Bank and a Training Consultant with the Wealth Management Institute. She is a Past-President of the Inner Wheel Club of Singapore East, a non-profit organisation and a Board Member of Caritas Singapore. She attends the Church of St Ignatius where she serves in the Lector Ministry.

Anthony Soo

   

Anthony Soo works as a Regional Sales Manager in ExxonMobil Chemical. He is the current Vice President of Catholic AIDS Response Effort (CARE). He is presently an Adult Advisor in the Youth Ministry of the Church of St Francis Xavier and served previously as Catechist Coordinator and Catechist for six years.

Dr Tan Chi Chiu

   

Dr Tan Chi Chiu is the Vice Chairman of Make A Wish Foundation Singapore. He is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Physician at Gleneagles Medical Centre, an elected member of the Singapore Medical Council and Chairman of the Medical Ethics Committee. He also serves as a Board Member of the National Youth Achievement Awards Council and Lien Centre for Social Innovation. He has been intimately involved in youth and community service in Singapore and internationally and has had much experience with the government-civil society interface, especially through being a past Executive Director of the Singapore International Foundation and his work with both the Singapore-21 and Remaking Singapore Committees.

Fr Colin Tan, SJ

   

Fr Colin Tan is the Novice Master of the Jesuits (Society of Jesus). In addition, he is also the Treasurer of the Jesuits of Malaysia-Singapore region. He is a Board Member of Caritas Singapore, Spiritual Director of the Jesuit Refugee Service Singapore, Chaplain of the Catholic Medical Guild and Praise@Work, and Member of the Inter-Religious Ecumenical Dialogue Council.

Michael Thio

   

Michael Thio was formerly the Managing Director of BT (British Telecom) South East Asia and now serves in the capacity as Senior Consultant. He is the President General Elect of the International Council General of the Society of St Vincent de Paul which is headquartered in Paris, France. He is a Knight of the Order of Malta, Singapore and is its Treasurer. He is a Member of the Archdiocesan Finance Commission and the Investment Sub-Committee. He serves on the board of the Catholic Welfare Services and the management committees of St Theresa’s Home, St Joseph’s Home and Villa Francis Home for the Aged. He is also Chairman of the Catholic Kindergarten Management Committee.

Jolovan Wham

   

Jolovan Wham is the Executive Director of Humanitarian Organisation for Migration Economics (HOME), a non-governmental organisation based in Singapore which deals with issues concerning migrant worker's rights and welfare.  After completing his undergraduate studies in social work at the National University of Singapore, he assisted its current founder and President, Bridget Lew, in spearheading and running its current programmes and initiatives.

Francis Wong

   

Francis Wong is the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Non-Profit Leadership (CNPL), an organisation focused on the leadership development of non-profit organisations. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in Mechanical Engineering and has a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Hull. He was in Deutsche Telekom in various roles including Regional Manager for Asia & Middle East, Managing Director of France, Vice President of Western Europe & Africa, and Chief Sales Officer for China. He is actively involved in community work as a member of the Catholic Business Network and Trinity Soup Kitchen.

Kevin Yap

   

Kevin Yap is currently the Chairman of the Roman Catholic Prison Ministry where he has been an active volunteer since 2004. With twenty-five years of experience in management and corporate finance, he was formally the Executive Chairman of Yongnam Holdings Limited.  He attends the Church of the Holy Cross where he served as a Warden and an Extraordinary Communion Minister.

Tan Thuan Seng

   

Thuan Seng is the Chairman Focus on the Family Singapore Ltd, a local charity set up 2001 and now leading advocate and provider of family life education in Singapore. An accountant by training, Thuan Seng has more than 20 years of senior management experience with MNCs such as Shell, BP and Norcos Plc, rising to regional CEO. He also serves on board of several companies and NPOs. Thuan Seng completed his Cross-Road's Training with the University of the Nations in 1997, and has been a trainer and facilitator of family life education for 20 years in 1992, he founded Bright Arrows, a social enterprise which presently has projects operatingsuccessfully in eight developing countres.
