Hari Raya Lunch Celebration at Agape Village

Our friends from PERTAPIS Senior Citizens Fellowship Home (PSCFH) enjoying a time of fellowship over Malay cuisine.

On 27 June 2018, the main office of Agape Village (AV) was unusually silent. The familiar bustle and chatter of the AV office had shifted to the multi-purpose hall. That afternoon, the 150 staff based in AV hosted a Hari Raya Lunch Celebration for more than 40 residents from PERTAPIS Senior Citizens Fellowship Home (PSCFH).

Various member organisations, under Caritas Singapore, coordinated to organise the event. Abilities Beyond Limitations and Expectations (ABLE), an organisation housed in AV, which strives to meet the needs of the physically challenged, provided for the transport arrangements. In addition, Bakers Beyond, a community partner of AV, also joined the celebrations and they added to the Hari Raya festivity. This culture of resource-sharing and collaboration has continued to be a feature of the many events held at AV.

The Joget dance off brought smiles to many faces!

For the Hari Raya Lunch event, the highlight was a joget (traditional Malay dance) competition. Despite entertaining performances from various teams, it was a close decision to select one winner; the team from Bakers Beyond. Nonetheless, everyone was in high spirits as the programme concluded with an impromptu singing session.

St. Paul exhorted the early Christians in Rome to “welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (in Romans 15:7). As the staff of AV embraced their friends from Pertapis Home that afternoon, there was a deep sense of joy which was evident from the smiles on many faces.
