What is it about?
With the theme "Partnering the Poor, Living Our Faith", SMC2012 aims to create a mindset change of what it means to help the poor in our society.
The moral test of any society is how it treats its most vulnerable members.
What is your response to the poor and marginalised in our midst?
Do you focus on their needs and deficits?
Do you seek to create opportunities and motivation for self-help and respect?
How does our faith call us to respond to these social needs?
Through a series of in-depth discussions on the underlying issues facing our poor, personal and theological reflections, you will be inspired to transform lives and help shape a more proactive and participatory Church.
Conference Highlights:
-
An in-depth look into the poverty entanglement
-
Theological reflection by Fr Mark Raper, SJ, President, Jesuit Conference of Asia-Pacific
-
‘Find Your Own Calcutta” – A panel conversation with social entrepreneurs and advocates of the needy
-
Sharing by Kwek Mean Luck, Chairman of Community Strategy Committee, Caritas Singapore, on its approach to helping the poor
