Greetings from Caritas Singapore!

I am Gail Ng and I have recently joined the Caritas Singapore family as Formation Coordinator. In my role, I will be focusing on how we gain a better understanding of the Church’s teachings in the light of the many different social issues that we see, read and encounter each day. In doing so, may we come to reflect and appreciate God’s spirit in our lives and be moved to action where social needs are present. This is in line with Caritas Singapore’s strategic framework where one of the key core areas is to inspire Catholics to live out their social mission.

In September this year, Caritas Singapore will be staging its flagship event, the 3rd Social Mission Conference 2012 at the Performing Arts Centre of the Catholic Junior College. Themed "Partnering the Poor, Living Our Faith", SMC2012 aims to create a mindset change of what it means to help the poor in our society. Through a series of in-depth discussions on the underlying issues facing our poor; personal and theological reflections, you will be inspired to transform lives and help shape a more proactive and participatory Church. Caritas Humanitarian Aid & Relief Initiatives, Singapore (CHARIS), as part of its focus on overseas humanitarian work, is organising a talk on WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene). It has invited Mr Lim Chee Leong of Lien Aid to share on his work and experiences in dealing with water and sanitation needs and projects, particularly in Cambodia and China. The talk is free.
