Helping the Children of Jatijejer, Surabaya

In December 2007, Bishop Mons. Vincent from Indonesia invited members of the Spanish Speaking Community in Singapore to help the poor children of the neigbouring villages.  The group of Mexicans and Singaporeans included some students from Malaysia, who came together to help in the Social Project in Jatijejer, Surabaya. Led by Fr Joe Lopez Carpio, the youth fundraised to buy much needed stationary and other necessities for the children.  The team worked hard to clean, paint and do other repairs in some houses.  Break time was a luxury for the team who spent the afternoons teaching English and played with the energetic children from the village.

The trip to Surabaya is one of the many annual trips organized by Fr Joe Lopez, who would usually bring the youth to other parts in the region, for example Malaysia and Bangkok.
