The Infant Jesus Homes & Children's Centres welcome children from low income families, and priority is given to children who need protection; children facing emotional crisis or are otherwise , at risk. Children come from families where they are often the witnesses of violence or the victims of abuse and neglect. There are also children who parents suffer from poor physical and mental health and need support to provide care for their children. The children coming to the programmes at the different Centres are given support, care, therapy, social physical and academic activities.
Children between 2 1/2 and 13 years are accepted into the programme when they meet the eligibility requirements: low income (family income less than $1500per month); need protection and care; children in moral danger where the heads of the households maybe physically or mentally unfit; family may be going through separation or divorce and/or there is repeated abuse, violence and neglect taking place in the family.
Out of School Hours Care Programme
Children with similar background to those in the residential care programme, however, for these children, they are able to home everyday, as there is either a parent or a family member who is able to care for them after work hours. These children also live in and around the Clementi area.
Home to 7 disabled, middle-aged and elderly women who were abandoned when they were babies or very young children at the former CHIJ, Victoria Street. As their families cannot be located or found, we will continue to care for them. At the Home, all their needs are provided for as most of them cannot be employed. Simple therapies are designed for them so that they remain active and healthy.
The centre serves about 40 children in the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 area. It offers pre-school programme for young children to prepare them with basic learning skills and the discipline needed for them to enter formal primary education. The parents of these children are unable to provide the simulation and nurturance for their children either because they are poorly educated, illiterate or are plagued with social, financial and emotional difficulties.
The programme is for school-going children (7 years and above) who find the formal school setting a daily struggle, the individualised support each child receives helps each one to progress at his/her own pace. Among these children are a few children and youths who have never been to school because of their unique family situation.
